A Holy Marriage

October 16, 2022 / Matt Ritchey / Ephesians 5:22-23

  1. Distinct mean distinct
  2. Our differences are what make intimacy
  3. Because we are , intimacy requires

Key Truth: shouldn’t become more like women and more like men. Both men & women should become more like .

Questions for further Study:

    • Think about a time when you and your spouse experienced the same thing but felt completely different about it.
    • What is the difference between love and respect? Why is it so important that we receive both? Generally speaking, why do men speak the language of honor and women speak the language of love?
    • What are the differences between you and your spouse? (Not flaws; this is not a time to be negative. Think personality, skills, gifts, etc.)
    • Are their areas where you are weak, and your spouse is strong? How do your strengths and weaknesses complement each other?
    • What are some ruts you have found yourself stuck in?  Can you identify the lie of the enemy that is the root cause? Write a truth statement (dig a trench) based on scripture that will help you change your thinking in this area.
    • What are some trenches you and your spouse should be digging together?
    • We all have regrets and missed opportunities.  We can’t do anything about the past, but we can do something today. What is your next step in becoming like Jesus?
    • How can you help your spouse in their journey to become more like Jesus?

Application:

If you are married…

  • Take some time this week and write down at least one way you will show love and respect to your spouse.
  • Read through Ephesians 5:22-33 and pray asking the Holy Spirit to make you more like Him and help you fulfill your God-given role in your marriage.

If you are single…

  • Do the same exercises above but with your future spouse in mind. Ask God to continue to shape you into God’s best for your future spouse.
  • Determine now that you will learn the language of honor and love and seek to speak the one your future spouse needs to hear the most.
