QUESTIONS FOR FURTHER STUDY
Discuss Judges 1 & 2:
• What are some areas in which you have attempted to justify disobedience with excuses?
• Identify the excuses in Judges 1. What was God’s response? How can excuses harm us in the long-term?
• Read Joshua 24:15. Discuss the choices made by the Israelites. Why do you think they chose as they did? What are some “false gods” or idols today? Why is it tempting to put our trust in them?
• How do false gods enslave? Share how you have found this to be true in your own experiences.
• Why is it important to pay attention to what we know is true about God? What could be the results of our disregard or inattention?
• Read Judges 2:10. How does this convict you? What changes need to be made in our own lives to ensure this doesn’t happen? How can the gospel turn this around?
• Which part of the message impacted you most?
PERSONAL REFLECTION AND APPLICATION
This week, take some time to reflect on areas in which you are most likely to make excuses to justify inaction or disobedience. Take it to God in prayer and ask for His strength to do what He’s called you to do. Make it a point this week to intentionally focus on trusting God’s strength in areas of weakness.
