Three things we need to know about spiritual growth:
1. God Himself makes
2. Growth in godliness ; it must be
3. The pursuit of godliness will
NOTES:
QUESTIONS FOR FURTHER STUDY
Read 2 Peter 1:1-4 and discuss:
• Will a Christian change? Why or why not? What are excuses that we sometimes make to justify staying the same? What motivates you to change? Why is it important to have the “want to”?
• List different things God has given you to help you grow.
• Read Philippians 2:12-13. Compare it with what you read in 2 Peter 1. What is God’s part? What is our part?
• What does God change instantaneously? How does He change us gradually? Discuss the process of change (sanctification).
• Identify the fruit of godliness. How does this bring assurance?
• What is an area in which you have victory that you didn’t have before? • Why is eternal life so significant? How does it motivate your growth? • What part of this passage or the message especially stands out to you?
QUESTIONS FOR PERSONAL APPLICATION
As you prayerfully consider these questions, ask God to convict your heart for godliness:
• Am I growing? If not, why not?
• Realization: Is there a next step to which God is calling me?
• Motivation: What is holding you back?
• Information: What knowledge do I need to take this step? Where do I need to go or who can help me find answers?
• Application: Am I living out and practicing what I know?
