Kill the Excuses

January 5, 2025 / Keith Waggoner / Joshua 1:1-9

Two things every Christian must understand:
1. In Christ, every Christian
2. Every Christian can replace with

If this is true, what keeps us from moving forward?
• We won’t claim what we don’t KNOW
• We won’t claim what we

NOTES:

QUESTIONS FOR FURTHER STUDY
Read Joshua 1:1-9
• What is an area in which you are most likely to make excuses? How
have excuses either helped or hurt you?
• God called Joshua to lead the Israelites to a place they had never
been before. God will call us to new places, too. Why is change so
uncomfortable? How do you normally respond?
• Discuss the significance of Joshua 1:3. What would you do for God if
you knew you wouldn’t fail?
• What specific steps did the Lord instruct Joshua to take in order to
be successful (v. 7-8)? What can we learn from this? Why is the Word
of God so important to us moving forward?
• Two reasons were proposed in the message as to why we don’t move
forward. Which reason has been or currently is an obstacle for you?
• Identify the biggest obstacle to trusting God.
• Details some of the things God has already given us in Christ
(Ephesians 1; 2 Peter 1:3). How then should we live?
• What impacted you most from the message?

APPLICATION
• Trade in your “I can’t” for “I can’t, but God can”. Identify the greatest
doubt you have concerning God’s promise that you are His heir. Read
through Ephesians 1 and see if God specifically addresses the doubt.
• Read the following verses this week and ask these two questions:
How is the victory of God evident in this passage? What truths do I
discover about God and about His promises?
Monday: Philippians 4:1-20
Tuesday: Hebrews 13
Wednesday: 2 Peter 1:1-11
Thursday: Ephesians 1:15-23
Friday: 2 Corinthians 5:17
