NOTES:

QUESTIONS FOR FURTHER STUDY

Read Acts 1:1-11 and discuss:

• Why do you think Jesus told the disciples to wait before they went?

• How would you describe “the kingdom of God” in your own words?

How is it different from a political or cultural kingdom?

• What is your initial reaction to the motivation behind the disciples’

question in verse 6? Do some research: read Jeremiah 31:31-34;

Ezekiel 11:11-14; Ezekiel 36:23-28; and Ezekiel 37:15-19. How could

this shed light on their motivation?

• Why is the Holy Spirit essential to accomplishing the mission Jesus

gave? Can you share a time when you sensed the Spirit giving you

boldness, conviction, or words beyond your own ability?

• The Greek word translated witness in Acts 1:8 is martys, the word

from which we get the English word martyr. How does that deepen

your understanding of what it means to follow Jesus today?

• Where is God calling you to be a witness right now?

• What are obstacles to you living on mission for Christ?

• In what ways can we “pray and prepare” for the Spirit’s work in and

through our church today?

• What impacted you most from the message?

PERSONAL REFLECTION AND APPLICATION

• Have you been more of a spectator or a witness lately? What needs

to change?

• How dependent are you on the Holy Spirit in your daily life and

ministry?

• This week, pray and prepare like the disciples did. Ask the Holy Spirit

to fill you afresh, open your eyes to one person in your “Jerusalem,”

and give you the courage to share your story or an invitation to faith.

Then, take one tangible step of faith and do it.
