FINISHED…BUT NOT THE WAY YOU THINK

April 5, 2026 / Keith Waggoner / John 19:30

Two things we can know:

1. The cross

2. The empty tomb

BIG POINT: Because it is finished,

NOTES:

QUESTIONS FOR FURTHER STUDY

Read John 19:28-42 and Luke 24:1-8 and discuss:

• Identify a pivotal moment in your life that changed everything. What

changed?

• When Jesus said, “It is finished”, everything changed. He wasn’t

saying, “I am done”; He was saying, “It is done.” Which aspect of “what

was finished” stood out most to you (debt paid, suffering completed,

God’s plan fulfilled, enemy defeated)? Why?

• When Jesus walked out of the tomb, everything changed. Why is the

resurrection essential to our faith? What would be missing if Jesus

had not risen from the dead? (Check out 1 Corinthians 15:12-28)

• Talk about the question posed to the women at the tomb in Luke

24:5. Where do people most commonly look for “life” today (success,

approval, relationships, comfort, etc.)? Why do those things ultimately

fall short?

• In Luke 24, the women “remembered” Jesus’ words and everything

changed. What are some truths about Jesus that you tend to forget in

difficult moments? What can you do to make sure you don’t forget?

• What does it look like in a practical, everyday way to “stop searching

and start trusting” Jesus? Share your testimony. How has the cross

and resurrection changed everything for you?

• What was the biggest takeaway from the message?

PERSONAL REFLECTION AND APPLICATION

• This week, ask yourself, “Where am I still living like it’s not finished?”

• Identify one “dead place” you’ve been looking to for life and

intentionally replace it with trust in Jesus.

If you have trusted in Christ for salvation or recommitted your life to

Him today, please let us know. Text HOPE to 208-408-0633.
