NOTES:

QUESTIONS FOR FURTHER STUDY

Read Judges 6 and discuss:

• Read through the story found in Judges 8. Would you say that Gideon was successful in his obedience to God? Explain.
• Gideon messed up. He was flawed. Where do you think it started?
• When Gideon took the gold and made the ephod, it represented
spiritual authority and power and became a snare to him and his family. Why does money, fame, and power often lead to personal corruption?

• Read 2 Corinthians 1:8-10. What was happening to Paul and how
did he feel in that moment? What was God’s purpose in that situation according to the text?
• How might we emulate Paul’s response to pain and suffering that we cannot bear?
• Gideon was flawed and he failed. Paul was flawed but he was faithful. What do you see in these two men that made the difference in the end?
• How might you allow God to take your flaws and use them for His glory? What changes might need to take place in your life for you to be called “faithful”?

PERSONAL REFLECTION AND APPLICATION

• Gideon experienced the blessing of God but it didn’t end well. Reflect on the trajectory of your life. Which way is it trending? Are you getting closer to God or are you drifting?
• The Greek word for faithful is pistos and it literally means to be fully convinced that Jesus is the anointed Messiah, Son of God. To be “pistos” is to be fully submitted to Christ. Ask the Holy Spirit to search every area of your life to ensure everything is under the authority of Jesus.

• If there is an area that needs surrendered, what is your next step? What are you going to do this week to surrender that area of your life completely to God?
• Write a prayer of surrender and praise to a God has the power to take your flawed life and transform it into one that is called faithful.
