QUESTIONS FOR FURTHER STUDY
• Discuss the different ways people can be confused about spiritual gifts.
Read 1 Corinthians 12:4-11 and discuss:
• How does this bring clarity to what a spiritual gift is? What are some interesting points that stand out to you in these verses?
• Why do some people have certain gifts of the Spirit, while other people have different gifts? Is this a good thing? What is the purpose of gifts of the Spirit?
Read 1 Corinthians 14:1-12; 26-33 and discuss:
• How are we (the church) built up? Explain how you have been built up by another Christian exercising a spiritual gift.
• What are the ways the gift of prophecy is exercised today?
• What is the purpose of tongues? Why does Paul urge believers to especially desire the gift of prophecy?
• Have you experienced moments where God used someone to communicate truth about him or where someone said something that was the right thing at the right time for your encouragement, consolation and upbuilding? What was that experience like? Do you think of those type moments as prophesy; why or why not?
• What does it look like for members to exercise their spiritual gifts within a LIFEgroup?
PERSONAL APPLICATION
In your prayer time this week, incorporate listening. Write down the people or needs you are praying for and ask the Holy Spirit to lead you in how to pray about each situation. Take 3-5 minutes of stillness to listen for the leading of the Holy Spirit. Instead of praying TO God, pray WITH God. Be sure to journal how God is leading you to pray. Also, don’t forget to come back and record how God answered your prayers.
