QUESTIONS FOR FURTHER STUDY
Read Revelation 20 and discuss:
• How would the world look without evil? Contrast this with what we see today.
• What are the differences between the judgment seat of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:10) and the great white throne judgment?
• How does 2 Corinthians 5:10 challenge you, knowing that your works for Christ will be judged?
• Discuss the different words used in Scripture to describe hell. What does this teach us about hell?
• Why do we have difficulty reconciling hell with the loving character of God as also presented by the Bible? How do we reconcile the love and the justice of God? How do they meet at the cross?
• How does punishment of sin show God is not apathetic toward wickedness? How is God glorified through His justice?
• How does/should the sobering reality of the coming judgment impact the way we live today?
PERSONAL APPLICATION
• Although it will not be a pleasant study, get a concordance (or find one online) and look up all the verses it lists under the words “hell” or “Hades”. What do you discover in your study?
• For one week, listen for the way people speak of the idea of “hell,” whether at work, in the shopping mall, on TV, or in any movies you might see. What do people in this culture believe about hell? What phrases do they use that show an ignorance of its true nature? Why is this significant?
