Three takeaways from James 2:
1. Demon’s faith is different from
2. Living faith is not and alone
3. Living faith has
NOTES:
QUESTIONS FOR FURTHER STUDY
Read James 2:1-10 for context and discuss:
• What are some things that divide us from other people not like us? What is more difficult: difficult: loving someone who is different from you or loving someone you just don’t like? Jesus would tell us that both kinds of people are our neighbors.
• James underlines that truth by saying if we don’t love our neighbors as ourselves, we’re guilty of breaking God’s law. In practical terms, describe what it means to love someone you don’t like, or someone who is different from you. What would God’s love for them look like?
Read James 2:14-20 and discuss:
• What is the big point James is making?
• Compare and contrast James 2 with Romans 3:21-28. Are these passages contradicting one another? Why or why not?
• Use a contemporary illustration for vv. 14-16. What are some things we commonly or unconsciously do that might be rebuked by James?
• Describe a demon’s faith. What do they believe about God and how is it manifested elsewhere in Scripture?
• What is the difference between real, living faith and the faith of demons?
• How could real, living faith potentially transform you? Your family? Our church? Our city?
• What was the most significant part of the message for you?
PERSONAL APPLICATION
• Consider your interaction with people. Does it display an active faith? • Which faith do you have?
• Write a prayer below (or simply pray one in silence), inviting God to work on your mind and heart in the areas you noted above. Be honest about your desires and fears.
• Intentionally encourage or connect with someone different this week.
