QUESTIONS FOR FURTHER STUDY
• Have you ever quit something that you later wished you hadn’t? What was it and why do you regret quitting?
• Have you ever been seriously tempted to quit following Jesus? If so, why?
Read Hebrews 12:1-14:
• Who are the witnesses the writer mentions in verse 1 and why does that matter?
• Who are some people who have inspired you to follow Jesus? What do you think they would be saying to you when you’re tempted to give up?
• How does the fact that Jesus is the founder and perfecter of our faith feed our confidence?
• What was the joy that was set before Him? What is the joy set before us?
• Name some things we should expect while following Jesus. What are some things that would be irrational to expect?
• Discuss your view of discipline: good thing or bad thing? Why?
• What is the difference between punishment, consequences, and discipline? Discuss the point of God’s discipline. What do these verses reveal about His discipline?
• What was the biggest takeaway from the message? How does this inspire you to keep running the race?
PERSONAL REFLECTION & APPLICATION
• Reflect upon how God has transformed you through His proactive and reactive discipline.
• Thank Him for caring enough about you to not give up on you.
• Meditate on this question: “How am I responding to God’s discipline in my life today?”
