QUESTIONS FOR FURTHER STUDY
Read 1 Peter 5:6-11 and discuss:
- Lions hunt at night and during storms to give them cover. Spiritually, our enemy is the same. Life imbalances, negative self-talk, comparing ourselves to others, unhealthy habits, isolation and spiritual opposition can all provide opportunity to him. Give some examples of how the following can happen:
- How can life get out of balance?
- What does comparing ourselves to someone else in a negative way, look like?
- What does negative self-talk sound like?
- What does an unhealthy escape from pain look like?
- What does unhealthy isolation feel like?
- How can we get out of the darkness and the storm and back into the light?
- What activities and people are truly life giving to you?
- What does your personal time with God look like? How can it improve?
- Is there anything about who God says you are that you have rejected?
- What are you doing to make your life count for eternity? What needs to change?
- What does your community of friends look like? Do you like the direction you are headed? How can this area of your life improve?
- Restored, confirmed, strengthened & established. Do these words describe you? If so, how did they become reality? If not, how can they become reality?
PERSONAL APPLICATION AND REFLECTION
- Peter talks about humbling ourselves. This means to be open to a new way of thinking and possibly admitting that we don’t it all figured out. With that in mind…
- Is there anything you are doing that you need to stop?
- Is there anything you are not doing that you need to start?
- Take some inventory of your life. What fears, anxieties, life circumstances, pains, etc. do you need to ‘cast’ on to Jesus? Write each one down and in prayer, give them to Christ asking for His wisdom to know what to do and the strength to endure.
- Restored, confirmed, strengthened & established. These are the words used by Peter to describe what God wants to do for us if we let Him but it has to be His way, not ours. Ask God sincerely what you need to allow Him to do in your life so these words can be reality.
