Jesus Knows

April 23, 2023 / Keith Waggoner / Revelation 2:1-7

THEME OF REVELATION 2;3:

Jesus knows

1. Jesus knows what His Church

Three things we learn from Christ’s first message:

• Jesus honors

• Jesus finds

• Jesus wants

BIG TAKEAWAY: matters to Christ, but so does .

NOTES:

QUESTIONS FOR FURTHER STUDY

Read Revelation 2:1-7 and discuss:

• What does Jesus “walking among the seven golden lampstands”
(v. 1) imply? Do you find the thought of Jesus knowing you intimately to be troubling or comforting? Why?
• Summarize Christ’s commendation and rebuke to the Ephesian church. What stands out to you?
• Is there a disconnect between doctrine understood as intellectual truth and doctrine understood as truth walked out in life? Paul told Timothy to watch his life and doctrine (1 Tim. 4:16), implying a close relationship between the two. How do we obey his admonition?
• Why is there such a close relationship between lack of love and lack of evangelism?
• If we see love for Christ as the beginning and heart of evangelism, how might that affect our practice of it? What does it mean to be a witness for Christ? The definition matters!
• If Jesus wrote you a message what do you think He would commend? What would He rebuke? How does this impact you moving forward?

PERSONAL APPLICATION

There are three challenges that Christ gave the Ephesian Church. Apply them to your own life this week:

1. REMEMBER your first love for Christ. What marked that initial season of following Jesus?

2. REPENT of abandoning your first love and its dedication, passion, and intentionality.
3. REPEAT what you did before (not giving up the good you have learned up to this point) from a proper motivation.
