Why the Resurrection Matters

September 10, 2023 / Keith Waggoner / 1 Corinthians 15

BIG POINT: We have to either

Paul makes three HUGE claims:

1. Christ’s resurrection is the

2. Christ’s resurrection is the

3. Christ’s resurrection

NOTES:

QUESTIONS FOR FURTHER STUDY

Read 1 Corinthians 15:12-22 and discuss:

• Share a time that an action changed the direction of your life.
• Why does what we believe matter? Why is Paul so emphatic about the resurrection? If Jesus wasn’t resurrected, what does that change for you personally?

Read 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 and 1 Corinthians 15:35-45:

• What do these verses reveal about the resurrection of believers?
• What has to happen to a seed for it to produce new life? What is the implication for us?
• What are our bodies like now? How will our resurrection
bodies be alike? Different?

Read 1 Corinthians 15:150-58 and discuss:

• Why can we say that death has lost its sting? What are we not saying?
• How does belief in the resurrection and eternal life change our view of trouble in this temporary life?
• What is the biggest takeaway from this chapter and/or message?

PERSONAL REFLECTION & APPLICATION

• Do you really believe that Jesus rose from the dead?
• Why is it important to you that Jesus rose from the dead?
• Identify something that is holding you down right now. How does the resurrection tangibly change your perspective of what you are facing? • This week, begin each morning with this prayer: “Jesus, because
you are alive, I will…” (fill in the blank with something you need to surrender, commit to, or do)
