QUESTIONS FOR FURTHER STUDY

• How do you normally respond to failure? Who is it easier to extend grace to, yourself or someone else? Why?

Read 1 Peter 1:1-16 and discuss:

• In what ways were the early Christians “exiles” (or strangers or aliens) in their culture? In what ways are Christians today “exiles” in the world? What makes them stand out?
• What are some encouraging truths found in the first twelve verses? • How does 1 Peter 1:3–4 describe a believer’s hope? What is a “living hope”? How is the inheritance God offers unlike any earthly inheritance?

• What is holiness? What does it look like in everyday life?
• Provide some reasons why people claim holiness is an impossible
standard.
• How is holiness possible for the believer? Read 1 Peter 1:2. Discuss the helps mentioned in the message.
• What was the biggest takeaway from the message?

PERSONAL REFLECTION AND APPLICATION

Read through 1 Peter 1:13-17, Romans 3:21-26; Romans 7:15-25; and Romans 8 this week and prayerfully reflect:
• Identify areas in which you are trying to earn God’s favor rather than trust His work. What needs to be surrendered to God?

• What are areas in which you identify with Romans 7?
• List some of the things the Holy Spirit does for the Christian. Are you relying on His work or your own?
• Pray for God to reveal your next step in growing in holiness.
