BIG POINT: In Christ, your past
Three things we can learn from Joshua 2:
-
God
-
Today’s grace is greater than
-
God’s grace offers
NOTES:
QUESTIONS FOR FURTHER STUDY
Read Joshua 2:
• What is the difference between shame and regret? How can shame affect us? Can you describe a time when you struggled with shame?
• Based on Joshua 2, describe Rahab. What are some things about her that stood out to you?
• What do you think inspired Rahab’s belief in the God of Israel?
• Why do you think Rahab’s label “prostitute” is used even in the New Testament (Hebrews 11:31 & James 2:25)?
• What does this passage teach us about the kind of people God uses to accomplish His purposes?
• Other than Rahab, who are some others in Scripture who were changed and used by God in spite of a shameful past?
• Read Matthew 1:5 and Hebrews 11 (especially verse 31). Why do you think God chose Rahab to be an ancestor of Jesus? Why should these verses give us hope? What does it teach us about grace?
• What would be your advice to someone trying to get past their past? • How has God helped you break free from shame?
• What impacted you most from the message?
PERSONAL REFLECTION & APPLICATION
The hymn Amazing Grace contains this line: “I once was lost, but now am found, was blind, but now I see.” Think back over your life since God saved you by grace through faith in Jesus’ work on the cross. Make a list of “I once was _____________ , but now I’m ________________” statements. Ask God who needs to hear your story.
