QUESTIONS FOR FURTHER STUDY

• Without naming names, has there ever been a person or situation

you’ve struggled to forgive? What made it difficult?

Read Matthew 18:21-35

• Why do you think Peter asked Jesus how many times he should

forgive someone? What does Jesus’ answer suggest about the nature

of forgiveness?

• How does Jesus illustrate the size and seriousness of our debt

before God? What does the king’s response teach us about God’s

heart?

• Why is the servant’s response so shocking after being forgiven so

much? What does this reveal about the condition of his heart? What

does unforgiveness reveal about our own hearts?

• Why is understanding that you are “unconditionally loved and totally

forgiven” essential to being able to forgive others?

• What’s the difference between forgiveness, reconciliation, and

restoration? Why is it helpful to know the distinction?

• How can choosing to forgive become an act of worship and

surrender to God?

• Take time as a group to pray for one another—for hearts to be

softened, for the courage to forgive, and for healing to begin where it’s

needed.

QUESTIONS FOR PERSONAL REFLECTION & APPLICATION

• Which of the six facts about forgiveness is hardest for you to accept

or live out? Why?

• Is there someone in your life right now you need to forgive from the

heart? What would it look like to take the first step this week?
