QUESTIONS FOR FURTHER STUDY
• What’s the funniest or most obvious counterfeit product you’ve ever
seen?
• How do you personally define something as “genuine”? Whether it’s a
product, a person, or a relationship—what tells you it’s real?
Read 1 John 1:1-7 and discuss:
• Why must Christ be at the center of Christianity?
• Where does complete joy come from?
• What is “fellowship” and why is it important? What is the basis of
fellowship? Define and describe true salvation. Describe a counterfeit
of the real thing.
• How does understanding that fellowship is eternal impact our
response when we fall? How should we respond?
• What does it mean to walk in the light? What is a counterfeit of
walking in the light?
• What does it look like to grow in the light? How should this affect the
way we disciple or critique others? Where in your life do you feel God
is calling you to bring something into the light right now?
• Talk about the significance of Christ’s blood cleansing us from all
sin. Why do you think some Christians struggle to believe they are fully
forgiven? How does the cleansing blood of Jesus give us freedom
from both perfectionism and carelessness?
• If someone asked you, “How do I know if my faith is real?”—how
would you answer after studying this passage?
PERSONAL REFLECTION AND APPLICATION
• Spend time this week reflecting on what Jesus has done—not what
you’ve done—to secure your relationship with God. Write down what’s
true about you because of Him.
• Walk in the light you have. Ask the Holy Spirit each morning this
week: What area of my life needs light today? Then pray: “Lord, help me
walk in the light as You are in the light.”
