NOTES:
QUESTIONS FOR FURTHER STUDY
• Have you ever believed something as a kid that turned out to be
completely wrong?
• Where does confidence come from? Why is it important in our walk
with Jesus?
Read 1 John 1:1-6-2:2 and discuss:
• What are the three ways John says sin deceives us?
• What’s the difference between struggling with sin and walking in
darkness?
• Why do people tend to minimize or rename sin? How could this be
dangerous? How could this impact fellowship with God and others?
• What lie from the enemy are you most tempted to believe when you
fall into sin?
• Read 1 John 1:7 and 2:1–2. What does it mean that Jesus is both our
propitiation and advocate? What do these terms mean and how does
this provide confidence?
• What role does ongoing confession play in our assurance and
ongoing growth in Christ? Is confession something you do?
• Read 1 John 1:9. What does it practically look like to walk in the light?
• How do you keep progressing in the light, even when you stumble?
PERSONAL REFLECTION AND APPLICATION
• Assess: Where are you most tempted to redefine sin or downplay it
in your life? Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any ways you’ve been lying to
others, yourself, or about God.
• Confess: Practice confession this week in prayer or with a trusted
believer by aligning with what God says. Don’t let sin stay in the dark.
• Progress: Obedience is walking in the light you’ve already been
given. What step of obedience is God calling you to today?
