QUESTIONS FOR FURTHER STUDY
Read Ephesians 6:1-4 and discuss:
• What were some things you parents did right when they raised you? What are some things you would not want to repeat?
• Paul is continuing to look at the theme of submission and what it looks like for Christians. Name some different authority structures that exist. In what areas do you find it most difficult to submit? Why do you think the themes of authority and submission are so important?
• Why is it important that children learn how to obey and honor their parents? Is this for only young children? If not, what does this look like practically as an adult?
• Identify some parenting practices that should be found in godly homes? Why aren’t these practices always implemented? How can we intentionally make them part of our families?
• Why would Paul say to not provoke children to anger? What are some things that godly parents should not do?
• Out of the five suggestions for raising children in the fear of the Lord, which one stood out to you most and why? Is there anything you would add?
• What impacted you most from this message?
APPLICATION
• If you have a parent or grandparent, find a way to honor them this week. Let them know how grateful you are for them and why. Pray for them.
• If you have not articulated a family mission and core values, sit down as a family and come up with this together.
• Pray together as a family this week.
