QUESTIONS FOR FURTHER STUDY

Read 2 Peter 1:4 and James 4:1-10:

• What is Peter referring to when he talks about corruption? Discuss the evidence of corruption you see in the world. What are some effects you see in your own life?

• Peter talks about the important of being partakers of the divine nature. It’s been said that “nature determines appetite.” How does this apply to those who follow Christ? Those who don’t? How does nature also determine behavior?

• How does James help explain sinful desires?

• Contrast “friendship” with the world with following Christ. Why is this such a struggle? Discuss your experiences.

• Why is God jealous for us? When is it appropriate to be jealous?

• What are the keys to victory today? How would your life look if you followed James advice in turning from the world to God?

• What is God’s part and what is our responsibility?

NEXT STEPS

If there is an area in which you know you are enslaved, take these next steps:

• Remember what you have in and through Christ (2 Peter 1:3-4).

• Read and begin to memorize James 4:7-10 each day this week, remembering that God gives more grace.

• After reading James’s advice, write down how you are going to pursue surrender, resisting satan, drawing near to God, repentance, and humbling yourself before God.

• Pray for God’s help and celebrate what He begins to do
