1. Salvation is more than forgiveness of sins; it is
2. The new life we have in Christ isn’t just spiritual, it is
3. Discipline equals
NOTES:
QUESTIONS FOR FURTHER STUDY
Read 2 Peter 1:5-9 and James 1:22-25
• For what reason does Peter call us to supplement our faith (look back to v. 4)?
• Which of the ‘supplements’ (v. 6-7) stand out to you? Why are they necessary?
• Read the passage in James. Our sins are not forgiven through effort. With that in mind, why is becoming ‘doers of the word’ important?
• What happens to the person who is only a hearer?
• In what other areas of life does discipline lead to freedom or benefit?
• Spiritually speaking, discipline does not earn forgiveness from sin. What does it do for you? Think specifically about your life.
• What practical plan do you have (or will have) to intentionally follow Jesus?
NEXT STEPS
If you do not have a practical plan in place to intentionally follow Jesus, consider these next steps.
• Remind yourself that your faith is not your own. It is a gift from God. Receive it.
• Read the passages listed above. Think about your RPM’s and rate them on a scale of 1-10.
Relationships (family, marriage, parents, siblings, etc.)
Physical Health (nutrition, exercise, etc.)
Mental Health (emotions, stress, etc.)
Spiritual (time with God, worship, prayer, etc.)
• Once you rate each of the previous areas, ask God to guide your thoughts and write down one thing you can do in each area this week to improve to the next number on the scale. Start small and keep it in front of you. (Nightstand, desk, fridge, etc.)
• If you get stuck, talk to someone you trust and ask for their input and encouragement.
• Repeat daily/weekly (depending on the discipline). If you miss a day/week, don’t miss two. Keep going.
