QUESTIONS FOR FURTHER STUDY

Discuss Judges 6:

• After reading through this chapter, how would you describe Gideon to someone else? What do his responses to God’s words reveal about his heart and his perception of God (vv. 11-24)? Why does a right perception of God matter?
• Out of all the people God could have called to be a deliverer for Israel, why do you think He called Gideon? • What stands out to you about God’s responses to Gideon’s arguments?
• Why did Gideon doubt God’s promise (vv. 33-40)? Do you think he doubted God’s trustworthiness or doubted himself?
• Have you ever asked God for signs before obeying Him? If so, describe that circumstance. Why did you need a sign from God that what He was asking was the right thing to do? What does this say about your faith? How do you know for certain if God is asking you to do something?
• What is God preparing you for? What are some of the small victories He’s given you that might help you as you face greater challenges? How has your character been affected by the victories (and defeats) God has granted?
• Which part of the message impacted you most?

PERSONAL REFLECTION AND APPLICATION

What is the one thing you know God wants you to do, but you’ve hesitated? Perhaps it’s committing to a ministry team or talking to a neighbor or coworker about your faith. Or maybe it’s something even bigger—like taking a huge step of faith in moving from one career to another or going all in on something God is calling you to. Before you dive into that task, collect all the wisdom you can from Scripture and wise spiritual counselors and prayer. Rather than asking God for a sign, ask God to give you direction as you seek out those resources, so you can make the best decision possible, trusting God’s love for you to fill in the gaps between uncertainty and action. Then, just do it.
