Questions for Further Study

  • Have you ever tried to work out and get in better shape? What was your experience like? How difficult was it?
  • What do you think when you see an advertisement that promises results without any effort on your part? Why don’t those advertisements ring true?
  • Spiritually speaking what does it look like to be in great spiritual health? What should be visible in such a person’s life?
  • Why does our military put such an emphasis on physical fitness? What kind of emphasis have you put on our spiritual fitness?
  • Think about the concept of trying vs. training. What are the differences between the two?
  • Read Hebrews 12:1-12. List all the actions that are the responsibility of the child of God.
  • What would happen to our spiritual health/fitness if we did nothing about it?
  • What is the result of Christ-centered devotion and Biblical discipline? What is your next step with God in this process?

Personal Reflection:

  • Think about who you are today. Are you growing to be more and more like Jesus?
  • If not, there are two possible reasons. 1) You are still dead in your sins 2) You are not participating with God in the process of spiritual discipline.
    • 1) Your next step is to consider Jesus for real and trust in Him alone to forgive you and make you a new person. If you have questions, talk to someone who can guide you through this decision.
    • 2) Your next step is to begin spending regular time with God allowing Him to mold and shape you into the person He wants you to be.
  • Read 2 Timothy 3:16-17. Pray and ask God for a plan of personal Biblical Discipline that you may be ‘complete’ in His eyes.
