BIG POINT: God is faithful and He

If you are a Christian married to a Christian:

If you are a Christian married to an unbeliever:

NOTES:

QUESTIONS FOR FURTHER STUDY

• Divorce and remarriage has become common enough that virtually everyone has some exposure to it. If you are willing to share, what experience, either direct or indirect, do you have with it?
• How do you think the gospel should inform the way we approach a subject as personal as divorce and remarriage?

Read 1 Corinthians 7:10-17 and discuss:

• Why does Paul say what he says to married believers? How does two Christians divorcing distort the picture of the gospel?
Read Matthew 19:3-9 to have context about what Paul is referring to.
• How does adultery damage a marriage covenant in such a way that Jesus offers it as His only reason one may decide to divorce?

• What does Paul say are the advantages of a believer staying married to an unbelieving spouse? It only takes one Christian to make a marriage holy. How is this the case?
• God’s Word offers divorce as a concession instead of a command,
even when dealing with the most difficult circumstances in marriage. What does this tell us about how we should think about divorce?

• How can we as the church better serve and love people struggling in their marriage or those who have been through a divorce?

PERSONAL REFLECTION

• How does the gospel give hope to those who have been through divorce or suffered as a result of a divorce?
• What is the takeaway for you?

If you are in a marriage crisis, don’t go through it alone. Invite a wise, trusted, godly counselor to listen and offer guidance. If you don’t know where to turn, check out the following resources:
