QUESTIONS FOR FURTHER STUDY

Read Luke 2:1-14 and discuss:

• As best you can, imagine yourself in Joseph and Mary’s shoes. Describe how you might feel on the journey from Nazareth to Bethlehem.
• Do the same with the shepherds. If you saw what they saw, what would you think? Feel? Do?

• The announcement of the angel to the shepherds was the gospel and the result of the gospel is both joy and peace. What is real joy? What is real peace?
• Consider the concept of peace. Why is something we all want so
difficult to obtain in our own strength?

• With the advent of Jesus Christ, a new covenant of peace was established. Discuss the work of Jesus (crucifixion, resurrection). How does His great act of love offer peace to us today?
• Read Romans 5:1-4. How do we obtain peace with God? What does this peace with God look like in the life of a believer according to this
passage.
• Even if we have peace with God, there is often still tension or even hostility in our families, communities, nation, world, etc. What can we do today to pursue peace in these areas?

PERSONAL REFLECTION AND APPLICATION

• Think about the peace that Christ offers you. Do you sense the peace of God in your life? Is so, take a few moments to worship and thank God for what He has done. If not, think about what it could look like if you did. Ask God to bring the highest peace into your life.

• The highest peace begins with God but then it begins to flow over into other areas of our lives. What other areas of your life need to be transformed by the peace of God?
• What small step towards peace can you take this week?
