QUESTIONS FOR FURTHER STUDY

Read Colossians 3:1-17 and discuss:

• What is the meaning of your name(s)? Has the meaning of your name impacted your life in any way?
• Describe your identity as a follower of Christ. How is that tangibly changing your life?
• Based on what Paul writes here, what has happened in the past, what is happening now, and what will one day happen for the Christian?
• Why do you think Paul urges his readers to “set their minds on things above”? What is the difference between the things above and the things on earth?
• How do we go about putting to death the things Paul mentions in vv. 5-11? Have you done this? Share what happened and the results.
• Why is “putting on” so important? How is it tied to “putting to death”? • How does living out of your identity as a follower of Jesus change the way you worship?
• What part of this passage or the message especially stands out to you?

QUESTIONS FOR REFLECTION & APPLICATION

• Who are you in Christ?
• What are you setting your mind on?
• Ask for God’s clarity in identifying what needs to be cut out of your life and put to death. What are you making excuses for that needs to be surrendered?
• Actively pursue Christ’s character and claim the promise that God has given you everything you need for life and godliness.
