• Why is failure and the shame that accompanies it so effective at keeping us from moving forward?
Do some research on Peter:
• What are characteristics which mark the Apostle Peter?
• Look up the meaning of his name. Is there significance in the meaning?
• How were Peter’s personality traits a help? How were they a hindrance?
Read Luke 22:31-62 and discuss. It also might be helpful to look at the other accounts of the Last Supper in Matthew, Mark and John.
• Why do you think Jesus addressed Peter the way He did?
• How would you respond if He addressed you in a similar fashion?
• What is most significant of the three truths you find in verses 31-34?
• Are there any additional contrasts you see here between the work of Satan and the work of Christ?
• What does this reveal about temptation, spiritual battles, failure and restoration?
PERSONAL REFLECTION AND APPLICATION
• Read Hebrews 7:25; John 17; and 1 John 2:1. Meditate on who this reveals Christ to be. Thank Him for Who He is and what He does for us.
• Are there areas of failure in your life currently unaddressed because of your lack of faith in God’s grace? Confess those areas in light of 1 John 1:9.
• Do you have an advocate in your life who is praying with you and for you? If not, identify someone who could be that advocate.
• Who needs to hear this truth? Who can you invest in, challenge, pray for and encourage as they pursue Christ? Approach them about this idea and see what they think.
