QUESTIONS FOR FURTHER STUDY

• What are some reasons people become workaholics?

Do some investigative biblical research as a group.

• Read Genesis 2:1-3 and Exodus 20:8-11. Why did God rest? What does His example say to us? Why do you think God provided a specificcommandment concerning the Sabbath?
• Keep digging. Read Matthew 6:25-33. What is the point Jesus is making and how does this relate to resting? Why is trusting God as Provider so important to being able to rest from our work?
• Read Deuteronomy 5:12-15. How often do you pause and consider God’s salvation? What would happen if we spent more time resting
and reflecting?

Now read Hebrews 4:1-13.

• What was Joshua’s rest (v. 8)? Why was this not the ultimate rest?
• Go back and read verses 9-10 carefully. What is God’s rest? Why does it matter?
• How is Jesus our rest? How does this acknowledgement allow us to rest from “our works”?

• It sounds like a paradox, but why should we “strive to enter that rest”? • What was the biggest takeaway from the message?

PERSONAL REFLECTION AND APPLICATION

• Am I resting from my works by trusting in Christ’s work?
• Take a 12-week challenge and set aside one unhurried day a week in which you intentionally rest in God through enjoying beauty, friends, and activities that result in refreshing, praise, and thanksgiving.
