NOTES: QUESTIONS FOR FURTHER STUDY: What was a nickname, label or identity that you were given as a kid? Was it positive or negative? What impact did it have on your life? When you think about your own identity today, what comes to mind? There are probably names or labels that we have embraced that shape our lives right down to our everyday choices. Where do they come from? Why (and how) does identity shape or impact the way we live? What would it look like if someone’s identity was truly rooted in the work of God? What role does the Word of God play in this process & what are some practical ways you can ensure that God’s voice is prioritized in your life? Think about how you are perceived by those around you. How can you proclaim to them the glory of God not just in the words you speak, but in the things you do? PERSONAL REFLECTION AND APPLICATION Why is it so easy to attach your identity in your own work rather than allowing it to be rooted in the work of God? What steps do you need to take to allow God to more fully and completely define who you are? Evaluate your spiritual life. How often are you reading the Bible? How many days per week? How often are you praying? Worshipping? What needs to change in your schedule so that the voice of God is prioritized in your life? Read 1 Peter 2:1-12. Ask God to impress upon you not only who you are but how you can reveal His glory to those around you.
