WHAT IS THE GOSPEL? The gospel is that God SAVES 2. WHO IS THE GOSPEL FOR? The good news of the gospel is 3. WHY DOES THE GOSPEL MATTER? Because of the gospel, we can NOTES: QUESTIONS FOR FURTHER STUDY • Describe the best news you ever received. How did you respond? How did you celebrate with others? Read Mark 1 and discuss: • What does the word “gospel” mean, and why is it called “good news”? • Why does Jesus have to be at the center of the gospel? • 700 years prior, Isaiah had predicted that the Lord was coming. Why was it significant that God came to earth as a man, Jesus Christ? • “Christ” is a title, not a last name. Define what it means. What does it imply? • What is the significance of the voice from heaven saying, “You are my beloved Son; with you, I am well pleased”? • How did Jesus show His authority in Mark 1? What are the implications? • Contrast the different types of people introduced in Mark 1. What does this tell us about the gospel? • Why does the gospel matter to you? How has it changed your life? Why should it matter to everyone? • What impacted you most from the message? How can this be applied? PERSONAL REFLECTION & APPLICATION • Believe and Repent – Jesus’ message in Mark 1:15 is clear: “Repent and believe in the gospel.” Is there anything in your life that you need to turn away from to fully follow Christ? What is the biggest obstacle to you believing the gospel? • Obey Jesus’ Call – Just as the disciples immediately followed Jesus (Mark 1:16-20), consider what step of obedience God is calling you to take today. • Trust in Jesus’ Authority – Jesus demonstrated authority over sickness and evil.
