NOTES:

QUESTIONS FOR FURTHER STUDY

• When was the last time you started something new (a hobby, job,

fitness program, etc.) and thought, “There’s no way I can do this”?

What helped you keep going?

Read 1 John 2:12-14 and discuss:

• Why do you think John pauses his letter to remind believers of who

they are and what they have in Christ?

• Discuss what John writes to “children”. Why do new believers (or

young believers) especially need to be reminded they are forgiven?

• How should more seasoned believers treat new believers who are

learning to walk with Christ?

• Discuss what John writes to “young men”. How do Scripture and the

Holy Spirit equip us to overcome temptation and spiritual opposition?

Share ways you have experienced victory over sin or temptation as

God’s Word has taken root in your life.

• Discuss what John writes to “fathers”. Why is knowing God

personally the ultimate mark of maturity? How is “knowing God”

different from simply “knowing about God”?

• How does thinking about faith as a process (like physical growth

stages) change the way you view your own journey with Jesus? Where

would you place yourself right now—child, young adult, or parent

stage? What makes you say that?

• What encourages you most about this passage?

PERSONAL REFLECTION AND APPLICATION

• Which reminder do you need most right now: your position (forgiven),

your power (the Word abides in you), or your person (you know God)?

• Spend 10 minutes a day this week simply being with God—listening

in His Word and talking to Him in prayer. Journal one thing that

encourages you from the time spent with Him.
