Big Point: The church is the hope of the world.

Discipleship is not an optional course. It is not a twelve-step program. It is not intended for only a select few to carry out. Christ’s mandate to make disciples is meant for every one of His followers. – Will Sprunt

NOTES:

Questions for Further Study

  • Based on the teaching that a disciple is life-long, learner & follower of Jesus who teaches others to do the same, what does being a disciple of Jesus look like in everyday life?
  • The “Power of 4” study showed dramatic life change when believers engage Scripture four or more times a week. What keeps many Christians from consistent Bible engagement, and how can we overcome those barriers?
  • How does Paul’s relationship with Barnabas, Silas, & Timothy show us what discipleship should look like in the church today?
  • Jesus promised to be with us always and gave us the church as a community. Why is it important that discipleship happens in relationships, not isolation?
  • Charles Spurgeon said, “Every Christian is either a missionary or an imposter.” What do you think he meant by that—and how can we personally live as “sent ones” in our city and world?
  • How does the idea that “the mobilized church is the hope of the world” challenge your view of your role within your church family?

 Personal Reflection & Application

  • Reflect on your own personal discipleship journey. What is your next step?
  • Identify one person God has placed in your life whom you can intentionally invest in spiritually—pray for them, encourage them, and consider how to invite them into discipleship.
