Two Warnings

September 7, 2025   /   Keith Waggoner   /   1 John 2:15-27   /   Grace Bible Church

THE WORLD: An invisible spiritual to God.

John offers two blunt warnings for believers:

1. Don’t what won’t

LUST: An for

2. Don’t for

NOTES:

QUESTIONS FOR FURTHER STUDY

• When you hear the phrase “every heart has a throne”, what images or

experiences come to mind?

Read 1 John 2:15-17 and discuss:

• How does John describe “the world”? How is this different from how

we might casually use the word “world”?

• Why does John say that love for the world and love for the Father

cannot coexist?

• Which of the “desires of the flesh, desires of the eyes, and pride of

life” feels most tempting for you personally, and why?

• How do you see the “familiarization ->fascination -> imitation” cycle

of worldliness at work in our culture today? Where do you see it at

work in your own life?

Read 1 John 2:18-27 and discuss:

• How does John define an “antichrist”? How is that different from how

many Christians typically think about the Antichrist?

• What test does John give believers for discerning truth from error?

How does this help us recognize false teachers?

• What are some modern examples of “false teachings” or distorted

views of Jesus that believers might encounter?

• How can abiding in Christ (v. 27) protect us from both worldliness

and deception?

PERSONAL REFLECTION AND APPLICATION

• Do you believe, deep down, that God’s love is enough? Why or why

not? Where do you most often look for satisfaction or comfort apart

from Christ?

• Discernment Practice – Pick a podcast, article, or influencer you

often engage with. Ask: “What does this source teach me about

Jesus? Does it line up with Scripture, or does it distort Him?”

• Memorize 1 John 2:17 or 2:25 and use it to pray daily when you feel

drawn to the world or confused by competing voices.
